The year 2000 marks Dazibao's twentieth birthday. To mark the occasion, Dazibao has developed a project that will enable it to reach a huge audience. The authors and artists were asked to carry out a project that would fit into a context that is unusual for contemporary art yet highly familiar to photography –namely, an insert in the daily newspaper, Le Devoir. This insert brings together works by Dominique Blain, Serge Clément, Lucie Duval, Charles Guilbert and Trevor Gould, as well as a textual history of the centre by Johanne Lamoureux, a story by Hélène Monette and a more sociological –or indeed polemical– text by Bernard Arcand.

Far from being nostalgic or seeking an overview, this project celebrates the birthday of Dazibao through the act of creation.
