In this publication, accompanying the exhibition of the same name, the author takes up a particular history of the gaze. Under the guidance of a perverse Admonitor, she is willingly confounded by the multiple points of view contrived by artists. Moving from the gaze of the spectator - who is also the subject - the comings and goings of the voyeur, watching and being watched, to a figure seemingly pointing into the void, Louise Provencher interprets a variety of artistic mechanisms put in place, whether in the work of Brunelleschi, in Pirandello's characters, in the camera obscura, or via the construction of a fallacious visual pyramid.
